Up
Ah, another Pixar film seen in the theater. This one was in the new fangled Disney 3D that I despise. But the local theater only shows it in 3D, for the bump in ticket price I'm sure.
It was a decent film but man, I hate that 3D!
I have mixed emotions about this film. Generally I like all of the Pixar films but some of them I'm not the biggest fan of. Bugs is one of them. Up is another. But I guess they all can't be Monsters Inc.
We get a nice start to the film showing our main character, Carl, as a child meeting his future wife who is a adventurer wanna be. They dream of visiting South America but never do because of various circumstances that always seems to take away the opportunities. Something I'm sure many of us can relate to.
Unfortunately Carl's wife dies before they can ever fulfill that dream. Thus he becomes a bitter old man. He eventually is to be sent to a retirement community because of actions outside his control and because people won't to remove his house for big city expansion.
Carl decides to help them remove his house by flying it away with a massive amount of balloons. He's decided to fulfill the dream because of the memories of his wife wanting to go.
Joined, accidentally, by a insistent boy scout he actually goes on the adventure he always wanted. Just not quite the way he expected.
I'm not totally down on the movie but it was a bit slow to me. I'm not sure younger kids would really get into it because Anya didn't seem to enjoy it that much. There were funny bits to it such as with the animals and Carl having to deal with the boy scout.
The animation and design is very nice as per a normal Pixar movie. But it's just missing something to make it memorable.
